His historic 1968 US Open victory as the first African American to win the title was a huge push for Arthur Ashe to fight against the injustices in the sport that had held him back in his youth.

Arthur Ashe (1943-1993) is an example of elegance and commitment. At a time when tennis was entirely geared towards the white elite, the African American tennis player fought for access to the courts and to pave the way for others. Arthur Ashe contributed to the discovery of Yannick Noah on the African tour in 1971. The American champion gave him his first racket, and 12 years later, Noah won the French Open.

Arthur Ashe used his success to make tennis a more inclusive and accessible sport for everyone, always conveying shared and committed values. Throughout his career, he consistently impressed his opponents with his excellence, elegance, and composure, commanding respect far beyond the sport itself.

Arthur Ashe remains a contemporary inspiration. And tennis, while maintaining its prestigious image, continues his legacy through its actions.
